Lace Guilds and Associations
O.I.D.F.AOrganisation International de la Dentelle au Fuseau et l’Ainguille(International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organisation) This is an international organisation, which has a quarterly Journal. It meets for it’s Congress every two years, where members meet to exchange ideas, have workshops on the lace of the host country, and to visit places of interest to lacemakers in that area. Countries and places recently visited Nottingham - UK. Sweden, Prague – Slovenia, Athens – Greece, Groningen – the Netherland. The next Congress will be in Japan. ![]() The Lace Guild is open to all who have an interest in any aspect of Lace and Lacemaking. Founded in 1976 the guild has members all over the world. The Guild is an educational Charity working to promote an understanding of Lacemaking, design and presentation for today. It holds a weekend convention at the beginning of April, which includes Talks, workshops, and its AGM. It has a quarterly Magazine which includes patterns, lace related articles, and lace events. It has a large reference and lending Library of Lace related books. It is now registered as a Museum and has a large collection of Lace, of which some is displayed at their Head Quarters in Stourbridge, West Midlands. And is also available for study by arrangement. The Lace SocietyA society for Lacemakers, Collectors of Lace and anyone associated with the craft.The society was formed in 1968 in North Wales, as a means for lacemakers to meet and exchange ideas. Membership is open to all those genuinely interested in the making and study of Lace. ![]() The Lacemakers Circle was formed in 1988 to encourage the hobby of lacemaking in peoples of all ages and all degrees of skill. It has a quarterly Magazine. The Lace Circle offers a Help Line to its Members and also has a ‘Lace Pairing’ scheme which has brought about many close lace friendships. The Guild of Needle LaceThe Guild of Needle Laces was founded in 1983 by a group of the late Nenia Lovesey’s students, and is encourages the resurgence in various types of Needle lace. The Ring of TattersThe Ring of Tatters started in 1980 is run on a voluntary basis by an informal team. It promotes tatting by encouraging Local tatting days and workshops, demonstrates at exhibitions and craft shows.It has a twice yearly newsletter, with articles, patterns, and tips from tatters all around the world.
