An unusual aspect of Lace

The Lace Guilds Tri-annual Exhibition including the John Bull Trophy, entitled...

MOVEMENT

...is well worth a visit before it closes on the 25th September.

It is being held at the Walsall museum which is on the 3rd floor of the Walsall library.

I felt that this year the entries were very good. And there is much to look at and admire. Here are a few photo that I took but there was so much that I wanted to photograph but it was difficult because of the glass cases, so I though I would wait for the CD that I am told the Lace Guild is going to produce.

Lace Windmill Floral Lace Display

National Flax, Lace and Linen Museum

If you are venturing abroad to Belgium have been to Bruge and are wondering where else to visit, do go the National Flax, Lace and Linen Museum Eteinne Sabbelaan 4, Kortrijk.

This museum is about half an hours drive south of Bruge and is in an old farm on the southern outskirts of Kortrijk.

One of the large Flemish barns is the Flax Museum, which is very interesting and makes you understand the linen thread we use for lace. The farmhouse has been turned into a Tavern where you can get coffee or a meal.

These building form three sides of a square and you do have to ask where the lace exhibition is! You will be directed round the back, where you will see another very large Flemish barn.

It took us over two hours to go round this very well laid out display of beautiful Lace using the audio guides in English (other Languages available).

Upstairs they have tableau's of the use of linen and lace through out life. A very interesting way to display lace and linen. My only disappointment was that it was all old lace. I would have liked to see some modern lace there as well. But saying that we spent about five hours there and I would be only to glad to go again.
